With a lifelong fascination for health, stemming from very early traumatic experiences and empathizing with my mother's illnesses, I've navigated a journey shaped by both the triumphs and shortcomings of conventional medicine. Witnessing firsthand the complexities of managing rare diseases, mast cell issues, mental health conditions, and even an eating disorder within my family, I developed a nuanced understanding of healthcare systems and the impact of nutrition and lifestyle choices.
My own encounter with dysautonomia and atypical diabetes have not only deepened my insights into the importance of taking charge of your own health and optimizing health through lifestyle interventions, but also exposed me to the limitations of traditional medical paradigms. Empathy for those whose health concerns fall outside the diagnostic model became a guiding principle, especially after personally experiencing the frustration of not fitting neatly into diagnostic categories.
Engagement in various health studies, as a coordinator, researcher, and even participant, alongside publishing research based on human subject data, provided me with a comprehensive perspective on health, nutrition, and research dynamics. As a clinical coordinator in one of the first human microbiome study's, I delved into the intricate relationship between nutrition, lifestyle, and our microbiome, recognizing their pivotal roles in overall health.
Though I once contemplated a path in medicine, my academic journey led me to pursue a PhD, specializing in Neuroscience, and an MS in Gerontology. These endeavors equipped me with profound insights into aging processes and strategies for enhancing longevity and health span, while reducing risks for cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease.
Ultimately, my trajectory has converged towards a role as a Functional Health Practitioner. Part of me will always be a scientist, seeking the never ending pursuit of knowledge. I am guided by a synthesis of personal experiences, academic pursuits, and a deep-rooted commitment to optimizing the health and well-being of others.
